Sprinklers
We were on our way home from the dreaded exciting toy store and it started to pour down rain...the closer we got to home, it slowly slacked off. Our youngest daughter pipes up from the backseat, "God must have moved his sprinklers over to water his other yard!"

Father's Day
I sure got lucky when I found my husband. Not only was/is he amazing to me, he was/is an amazing father to his two young baby girls. He was a single father for a few years before we met. Not commonly heard of these days! I think that's part of what attracted me to him, besides that cute little smile of his! I'm so thankful he has allowed me to be part of our not so baby girls lives! He is, unfortunately, working a 24 hour shift today at the fire department so we celebrated early yesterday. I bought him a new charcoal barbeque pit (we have a gas grill but evidently they cook differently, who'd thunk it?) and got him a gift card to his favorite video game store...man sure loves his video games. I made (he barbequed) steak and shrimp kabobs and bacon wrapped shrimp kabobs and we just spent time together. Today the girls are currently working on an art project for him and I'm baking some Ooey-Gooey Turtle Bars for him. We were going to go up to the fire station and deliver them for all the guys but hubs is filling in at a different fire station not so close to home. For their art project I typed up a list of questions about Daddy and left space for them to fill in the blanks. They hand wrote their answers and are currently decorating the paper with markers (no socks involved) and crayons. I'm going to then frame each one and the girls will give them to him tomorrow morning when he gets home. There's really nothing like a homemade gift...to me anyway. In the next few days I'll post their Q&A about Daddy.

And not to leave my own daddy out...he's in San Antonio for my step sister's softball tournament so we'll be getting together later this week. My dad has always been an amazing father who thought us to never accept anything but the best. He worked harder than anyone I know to provide for his family when we were young. My dad never told us no when we asked for something, even if he didn't have the money or means for it, he worked even harder to get it for us. There were many things I didn't agree with my dad about when I was a teenager but now find myself using some of his same parenting skills and tactics! He did know what he was doing after all! =) My dad has been dealt some bad cards the last few years (i.e. his cancer, his business, family issues) but he still stands strong and unbroken when most people would have given up. I love you daddy and always will! You were, after all, the first man I ever loved!

Whole Chicken
I have always wanted to cook a "whole" chicken but just always found it easier to buy a rotisserie chicken already cooked from the grocery store...but now that I'm unemployed I've been trying to cook during the week. Last week when we were grocery shopping I saw the whole chickens were on sale...a 5lb chicken for like $5 bucks, I think. Being the tight wad frugal shopper that I am, I suggested we buy one! I searched the Internet yesterday afternoon for a recipe that sounded yummy - I found one and then changed it up a bit. I headed to the kitchen, gathered my spices, chopped my veggies, and then it happened...I saw all the "stuff" was still in the chicken. "ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I HAVE TO TAKE THAT OUT MYSELF?!" is what I shrieked to the husband. He continued playing his video game while laughing and said, "uh yeah, what'd you think?" Um, I certainly didn't think I had to removed GIZZARDS (whatever that is) and livers and hearts and ugggh whatever else was in that nasty looking chicken. I threw up in my mouth, a lot. I gagged. I choked. I turned the chicken upside down and shook it. And I vowed to NEVER buy another whole chicken. Buuut, omg, after an hour and 45 minutes of cooking...that chicken was soooo good and juicy! See for yourself....

I think I'll make another one...IF the husband "cleans" it out first!

Venting
This is just a bunch of complaining about school so feel free to skip this whole post.
First of all, WHY does the school suddenly decide to CANCEL a class that is already full? And, why would they cancel it knowing that this particular class is a class that students need the semester prior to beginning internship? And, why would they cancel a class knowing that their schedule already sucks to begin with and takes students hours, literally, to plan a semester?! WHY? WHY? WHY? I'm so irritated!
Secondly, why can't you take care of everything in ONE building? Why must I hike back and forth between two buildings just to change my damn last name?! Shouldn't one location handle all of the name changing process?
Third, why are there very loud moans, cries, and screams coming from behind a door in the computer lab that has fliers posted everywhere requesting silence?
Fourth, the damn screen savers in the library that say "Don't see RED about going GREEN! Due to recent budget cuts you are only allowed 300 prints." Really?! Now I'm really seeing red because my tuition increased by over 4% this semester and you cut my damn printing limit from 500 to 300! YET I still pay the same, maybe more, printing fee! Yes, I will see RED about this!
Fifth, I'm in an Astronomy class but we can't use the telescope because it's broken and can't be repaired/replaced due to budget cuts. These budget cut excuses are getting old!! How about a tuition cut, jerks?
Sixth, there has been talk about eliminating some student parking spots in the parking lot in front of the Bayou building to provide more facility spots. Are you freakin' kidding me?! We already have to walk a mile to get to class or drive around for 30 minutes hoping for a decent parking spot only to walk through the facility lot that is half empty!! WHY do you need to take more of our spots?!
Ok, I think I'm finished for now....I'm going to go work on my schedule for the Fall, AGAIN! Grrrrr....

Designs
The girls and I met up with this awesome chick and her adorable kiddos today at the Museum of Natural Science...buuut you would have thought we visited the Art Museum after I discovered my girls "designs" this evening....enjoy.

Sorry about the quality of the picture but it's from my cell phone. These would be my sweet, darling, little girls socks! They CUT them and then COLORED them. Their response when I asked WHY? "We wanted to make designs." Designs? Ok, gotcha! Oh, and the other half of the socks are MIA.
Let's just say they've lost their scissors and marker privilege.

This & That
Just wanted to check it...don't really have much to say! We've been keeping busy around here.
On Friday me, our little ladies, my sister, nephew, and my sister's work BFF went to the beach. I got fried...and yes, I used sunblock! I'm not a huge fan of the beach but it was nice to go some place different. We also got to witness the damage from Hurricane Ike...it's still so very evident down on the island. Breaks my heart.

Yesterday we attended Erin & Cole's wedding ceremony. It was beautiful!! We had a good time and it made me want to have another wedding, lol! I'm so happy for them and will miss Erin greatly while she's living in California for the next two years. =(

Today we're taking the little ladies to Incredible Pizza...pray for me. ;) Tomorrow I start my summer school classes. I'm taking two classes...wish I could have taken more but wasn't expecting to be laid off. Hope everyone is doing well! Oh, and PENNY, it was wonderful to see you at the wedding...and time to delurk on my blog! ha ha

What's Happening In Your Yard?
We've done some slight landscaping, found baby birds, watched our roses bloom, let Lucee drink from the hose, and just enjoyed some outside time!

Before! The people who lived here before had this huge flower bed...with nothing in it! We've planted flowers in it before but still had a lot of extra space so I came up with a genius idea....

During! Why not make it smaller honey?!

After! Great idea!! Don't ya think?! BTW - I had to go buy the sod alone...it was scary! Oh, and Tricia...don't laugh! Isn't your soon to be husband a professional? Ha! We're obviously not but I'm still proud of it! We put those stepping stones because when I get out of my car I always have to walk in the old flower bed or now the grass...so instead of killing the grass we just put those two big stepping stones. Hubs and I did it together...I planted all the flowers in this flower bed and in the other ones in our yard. It's a lot of work, just so you know!

My new Gardenia plant...I had one last year but it died in the hurricane. I'm having a little trouble keeping this one looking pretty. Any tips?

Our new Hibiscus tree...our other one also died in the hurricane!

My rose bush...looking mighty fine this year! I always heard roses were the hardest plant to take care of and grow but so far it's been the easiest!

Lucee was a thirsty girl after working in the yard all day!

How cute are these little guys?! Mama bird did NOT like me taking pictures of her babies!

Fabric Flip Flops
In my "spare" time I've been making flip flops...yeah, you heard me...flip flops! The idea came about when our oldest daughter joined the local drill team. I decided to make her a pair of those fabric decorated flip flops to wear to the registration we volunteered at and she can wear them to and from games so she doesn't get her performance shoes dirty. I made the neighbor girl, who is also on the team, a pair and they were quite the hit at registration. They can be a bit time consuming so I decided instead of being the giving person I am...I need to compensate for my time and supplies...so I'm selling them instead of offering to make them for free!
$10 dollars for plain fabric (polka dots and designs included) and $12 dollars for logo fabric (i.e. Texans fabric). I can also add rhinestones, glitter, and other decorations for a small fee. You can chose the pinking shear (zig zag cut) edge or the torn shaggy edge. If you're interested, let me know! I can do any color combo or design combo that your (or your daughters!) little heart desires. Feel free to pass this along or re-post. ;) E-mail me at (mrstoro@ymail.com)

The Texans fabric was used because of our team logo but any team fabric could be used...such as A&M, UT, and the such!
