Out of the Mouth of an Intern..

With that Intern being me!

Me: John Doe! Pull your pants up! Right now!

Me: Please don't stick your finger in that!

Me: Bring your paper to me so I can cut the snot off the bottom!

Me: Seriously?! You just did that?

Me: Please stop, now! (said approximately 1,547 times a day)

Me: I love you too but please don't pet me!

Me: Get the scissors out of your mouth now, please!!

Me: Don't lick that!

Just a few of the things I heard myself saying today....

Another One Down

Well friends...another semester down...and ONE more (not including a summer class) to go!! I can't believe I'll be graduating in 7 months!! This has been a veeeerrryyy long process for me. Sometimes I feel like "ok, really, most people are finished with medical school in the amount of time it is taking you to complete your bachelors degree." But then I think, "who cares?! AT LEAST I'm finishing my degree!"

My parents got divorced when I was 16 and I promised myself that no matter what...even if I'd never use my degree...I WOULD complete it. I unfortunately had to witness my mom, who was a SAHM of 3 kids for 20 years, take life on all alone and with no college degree or work history. It broke my heart and since that point I've wanted a degree to fall back on!

And at the risk of sounding INSANE...I think I may get my Masters degree...why stop now? ;)

Family Portrait

I had to use our oldest daughter for an assignment for school...her job was to draw a family portrait and my job was to analyze it...uh, ok. Last time I checked I am not qualified to analyze anyone...but whatever you say professor! All I could really gather from the portrait is....I'm a different color! (I'm in the purple...you know, the "peach" one!!!) Thanks, C! Love ya too! ;)

Bathroom Stalls and Black Asphalt

We got new bathroom stalls at school...and the parking lot is being repaved with messy black asphalt...and tuition went up...coincidence? I most certainly think NOT!

Seriously UofH?! The bathroom stalls were fine...yes, they all needed new locks and hooks to hang your bags on...b/c it's a mother bitch trying to go to the restroom and balance your school bags and purse because the hook is broken and the door is swinging open because the lock is broken...BUT why not just replace those two simple, cheap, items?! Did we really need brand new black plastic with white polka dot stalls?! Which btw, slam shut when you walk out...which leads me to believe they too will be broken in no time! And seriously...asphalt?! You know what this means...even I know what this means...in no time all the previous pot holes will show back up and it'll look the way it did before. If you want to fix something, do it right...AND what ever happened to saving some money?! Why must you increase my damn tuition every semester? I'm a little tired of it, quite frankly. You'll be sad when I graduate in 11 months and 3 days (who's counting?!) and you don't receive several thousands of my hard earned (or not) money!!! I won't be sad dear UofH! And while you're "fixing" things...could to fix the damn heat in the Arbor Building?!

Internship...

Woo...long time...let me see if I still know how to do this! I know I said I'd be back after my self-inflicted horrendous Fall 2009 semester was over...but I did nothing, well, nothing productive, for two weeks! I just didn't feel like typing when I didn't have to...I knew my computer time would be back soon with Internship 1 starting. I totally got ripped off on my winter break. The university doesn't go back until January 19th but intern started...TODAY...and yesterday I had professional development alllllllllll day...and I have it again next Tuesday...and Friday. Needless to say...it was a way too short break. I spent the first half of it in El Paso visiting in-laws....yes, it was as exciting as you think.

My bff of 20 years had her baby girl on December 18 and my sister is scheduled for a c-section next week because baby C is breech and he's not moving into the correct position! Boo for that but yay for him coming!!

I think I'm going to abandon this blog...yes, more than before...and start keeping an internship blog....anonymously, of course...because I have kindergarten (btw, it was the grade I threatened to slit my throat if I go)...and we all know kids say the darnedest things! I want to remember the good times in intern...and hopefully if I blog the funny things I'll remember WHY I wanted to be a teacher in the first place. ;) I'll let my huuuuuuuuuuge group of blog readers know if/when I start this.

BTW...I graduate on December 18, 2010...not that I'm counting or anything!

Is That Light?

I'm starting to see some light at the end of this tunnel I call school...I'll be back when I reach it! 3 finals down, 4 to go!

2 Hours Later

My 9am Astronomy class was cancelled at 11am via email...Thanks a lot teacher...it's always nice to know class is cancelled AFTER the fact...2 hours after the fact.

I Know...

I suck as a blogger right now! I just don't feel like it...how's that for a reason?! There aren't many things in my life that I can say that to/about...but I can say that about blogging and follow through with it! Like for instance...my husband has a "To-Do" list for tomorrow and Friday...tomorrow consists of taking down ALL of the blinds in the house and scrubbing and bleaching them...and Friday is shampoo the carpet day. Now, those are two things I'd LOVE to say "I don't feel like it" to but for whatever reason Hubs frowns upon that phrase of mine. Humph...the nerve! So for now...I'm not going to blog about my trip to Vegas...or my insane school schedule next semester...or the 3-4 hour naps I've been taking...or my children's birthday parties...or that fact that my cat vomited all over our bed and the dog vomited on the carpet...because I just don't feel like it!

I'll be back soon!

Umbrella Hater

I don't like hate umbrellas! There are many reasons for this...such as, what exactly ARE you supposed to do in the rare event that you make it to your car dry because you actually used the umbrella...do you get in the car while trying to close the umbrella outside the door? Do you close the umbrella when you get to the car and then hop into the car quickly? I haven't figured this one out yet...and I haven't figured out what to do with the WET umbrella once you do get it into the car? Do you drip it across the passenger seat and onto the floor? Do you put it down by your feet and run the risk of getting tangled up in it while driving and perhaps causing an accident? OR do you do something like this...

Once upon a time there were three young teenage girls who moved away to a wonderful college town just a mere month after graduating high school...some people refer to it as Aggie land...the young lovelies chose to call it "Coolage Sta." That name may or may not have been established after the consumption of alcohol...really, it's not my place to share that information. =) Anyhow, these young ladies had some weird aversion to school. It could have been the new found freedom they were experiencing, the awesome house they lived in, the cash flow their parents provided(none of the ladies worked), the alcohol consumption (again, not my place to share), ooor it could have been as simple as something called rain. Rain! Let me share a rain story with you about these three girls...

On one of the rare occasions that all three of the girls made it to school together it was raining! One of the girls, let's call her "Amy", was carrying an umbrella while hiking across the campus parking lot. Yes, am umbrella...you know, those stupid things that are supposed to keep you dry when its raining, well the wind picked up and flipped the damn thing inside out. Wonderful! "Amy" simply chunked the umbrella down, turned around, and walked back to the car. No words were needed...the other two girls followed closely behind. Once in the safety of their car, mostly likely "Rissa's" brand new Tahoe, they drove to Chick-fil-A and ate breakfast before continuing home to return to the warmth of their beds. (This last sentence could be true or false, most likely true because this was done on more than one occasion.)

So ladies, that is my third option of what to do with an umbrella when it's raining. It's really your choice...

Disclaimer: The above story may or may not be based on actual people named, Aimee', Marissa, and Amanda.

Venting

This is just a bunch of complaining about school so feel free to skip this whole post.

First of all, WHY does the school suddenly decide to CANCEL a class that is already full? And, why would they cancel it knowing that this particular class is a class that students need the semester prior to beginning internship? And, why would they cancel a class knowing that their schedule already sucks to begin with and takes students hours, literally, to plan a semester?! WHY? WHY? WHY? I'm so irritated!

Secondly, why can't you take care of everything in ONE building? Why must I hike back and forth between two buildings just to change my damn last name?! Shouldn't one location handle all of the name changing process?

Third, why are there very loud moans, cries, and screams coming from behind a door in the computer lab that has fliers posted everywhere requesting silence?

Fourth, the damn screen savers in the library that say "Don't see RED about going GREEN! Due to recent budget cuts you are only allowed 300 prints." Really?! Now I'm really seeing red because my tuition increased by over 4% this semester and you cut my damn printing limit from 500 to 300! YET I still pay the same, maybe more, printing fee! Yes, I will see RED about this!

Fifth, I'm in an Astronomy class but we can't use the telescope because it's broken and can't be repaired/replaced due to budget cuts. These budget cut excuses are getting old!! How about a tuition cut, jerks?

Sixth, there has been talk about eliminating some student parking spots in the parking lot in front of the Bayou building to provide more facility spots. Are you freakin' kidding me?! We already have to walk a mile to get to class or drive around for 30 minutes hoping for a decent parking spot only to walk through the facility lot that is half empty!! WHY do you need to take more of our spots?!

Ok, I think I'm finished for now....I'm going to go work on my schedule for the Fall, AGAIN! Grrrrr....

This & That

Just wanted to check it...don't really have much to say! We've been keeping busy around here.

On Friday me, our little ladies, my sister, nephew, and my sister's work BFF went to the beach. I got fried...and yes, I used sunblock! I'm not a huge fan of the beach but it was nice to go some place different. We also got to witness the damage from Hurricane Ike...it's still so very evident down on the island. Breaks my heart.

Yesterday we attended Erin & Cole's wedding ceremony. It was beautiful!! We had a good time and it made me want to have another wedding, lol! I'm so happy for them and will miss Erin greatly while she's living in California for the next two years. =(

Today we're taking the little ladies to Incredible Pizza...pray for me. ;) Tomorrow I start my summer school classes. I'm taking two classes...wish I could have taken more but wasn't expecting to be laid off. Hope everyone is doing well! Oh, and PENNY, it was wonderful to see you at the wedding...and time to delurk on my blog! ha ha

New Life

I'm still alive! Just living my life away from the computer. Hubs and I have been spending much needed quality time together. When I was working and going to school we were lucky to get an hour a day together...and most of the time I was doing homework during that time. Since he works 24 hours, 24 hours off, 24 hours on, and then off for 5 days we have PLENTY of time together! I love it! I've been cooking, can you believe it? I made Cheeseburger Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes last night...thanks Rachel Ray! I've been cleaning, a lot! I even have bruises from scrubbing the baseboards on my hands and knees today!! Can you believe that?! I don't like to clean anymore then I did before but...it's a small price to pay to get to stay home everyday!!

We're taking the girls out of daycare!! WOOHOO! I haaaaaaaaaaaaate daycare so I'm glad we're able to get them out of there! I plan on making our summer pretty scheduled just for the simple fact that if I don't I know the girls will be bored and drive us insane! =) We are really blessed that between my summer school schedule and hubs work schedule there is only ONE day we'll need to get a babysitter for 3 hours while I'm at school. Our neighbor has graciously offered to watch them that day.

We're having a family crawfish boil Saturday since we didn't get to have one for Easter. My mom is in town so we're working on getting her to move back to Texas! ;) We miss our Mama and it's time for her to come home!

I've tweaked and crammed my school schedule and will be able to hopefully graduate a semester earlier then expected...I'll probably be cussing myself later for doing this but I really want to graduate and be done with school! And no, I will NOT go back for my Master's. The school district can keep their $1,000 a year for a Master's degree. =)

Well, I think this post is random enough. Just wanted to update my few readers! Hope everyone is doing as well as I am! I love this new life!

Good Friday

We have a slightly busy weekend ahead of us! Tonight my nephew is coming over to dye Easter eggs with our girls. This is the first time our girls have dyed eggs...I know, I know...but they've NEVER asked to do it and I clearly remember how messy it is so I figured we'd just wait until they asked. Well, they didn't ask this year either but I started feeling guilty that our children had never done this so I purchased a $0.99 box of egg dye and 2 dozen eggs...we shall see how it goes...considering when these 3 kiddos get together they turn into monsters! Good monsters, of course! Oh, did I forget to mention we're doing this after I will have been at work for over 10 hours? ::happy thoughts, happy thoughts::

Tomorrow morning we're dropping the kids off at my sister's house and she is taking the little monsters to an Easter egg hunt at her church while the hubs and I run to Sam's for the stuff we need for the crawfish boil on Sunday...and most importantly, the pick up the crawfish! Then after we run all the errands I will ATTEMPT to make this cake I've been drooling over for months! I've already bought the supplies...I will be sure to let you ladies know how it turns out...unless it's a complete disaster...then I will just cry.

On Easter day we're having my sister, BIL, nephew, Dad, and Stepmom over for a crawfish boil...with our "jumbo" crawfish the hubs secured for us! We're also going to have an Easter egg hunt for the kiddos...you better bet we're going to hide those dyed eggs!

I also have a TON of homework, holy smokes, I can't wait for this semester to be O-V-E-R! Also, a birthday shout out to my girl Erin! Hope you have fun out with your friends! (evidently I'm not in her friend category anymore, lol j/k)

And on a heavier note, one of my college roommates is having a very serious and complicated brain surgery as I type this. She is having an AVM repair surgery, her second one. Her first brain surgery was when we were freshmen in high school. Please pray for a speedy recovery with no lasting side effects. She is seriously the funniest person I know...and she just happened to marry my sister's husband's brother...follow that? So, I'm lucky enough to get to see her regularly!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!! What are your plans?

Because I Need To Do Something Mindless

Outside My Window… is a parking lot...my car is parked directly in front of my office window...parked in the wrong direction because the lot is full...I'm currently blocking two vehicles in. I hate this parking lot.

I am thinking… that I am stressed out. I need a vacation from life.

I am thankful for… my husband, my children, bath bombs from Lush, new Coach purses, jeans that actually fit, and the sun that is shining ever so brightly today.

From the kitchen… there are three forks in the sink that I didn't wash before bed because I simply did not feel like it.

I am wearing… my Enterprise Ambulance t-shirt, jeans, tennis shoes, my glasses because my contacts hate me, and my hair is actually down today.

I am creating… a huge mess for myself. I must tackle all of my school projects before they become unbearable.

I am going… to do a lot of homework this weekend. I WILL get ahead.

I am reading… 50 books for my Children's Lit class...just finished Rules by Cynthia Lord. It's such a cute preteen book...and so sweet.

I am hoping… that I pass Math this time. I've passed my first two tests...two more to go. So much better than last semester. And I hope we find a dining room table we BOTH like. I'm tired of looking.

I am hearing… The Climb by Miley Cyrus

Around the house… you will find pet hair, UGH. No matter how much we vacuum or sweep. I hate it.

One of my favorite things… is a hot bath and a good book. Alone!

A Few Plans For The Rest Of The Week: Well, it's Friday...I've already shared my weekend plans of homework. I'm sure there will be laundry too...and cleaning the house. ::sigh::

I'm bummed out ladies...what is something you enjoy as a "pick me up?"

Dear School

I am SO freaking over you that it's not even funny anymore. I am tired of writing paper after paper after freaking paper! I really could care less how the American Psychological Association chooses to cite information. Why was MLA drilled into my brain for the past 20 years of my academic life if the University wants APA? I'm tired of doing "busy" work...I'm not 5 anymore...please, give me something with substance. And why do all professors wait until the last few weeks of the semester to SLAM you with projects and papers?! Oh, and tell me again...WHY did I need a nutrition class when I will have NO control over what my future students will be eating?! I'm over you...

Sincerely,

Stressed Out Student/Wife/Mom/Full-time Employee

P.S. Your parking lot blows!
